Accepted English tests and versions
General international entry lists IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic. OET appears in nursing-specific guidance. Other evidence must be checked for the relevant admission route.
PTE Online, IELTS Online, TOEFL Home Edition and OET@Home are not assessed. IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted, subject to course conditions.

Both the overall result and each listed skill minimum matter. These are clearly identified admission categories, not a promise that one row covers every degree.

Undergraduate, postgraduate and higher-requirement courses
The general international table covers undergraduate, postgraduate and research, with named exceptions.
Occupational therapy, paramedicine, physiotherapy, speech pathology and psychology appear in the exceptions table. Check teaching and law degree conditions separately.
Check the named course or category on the official admissions/course page. Write down the course code and intake so your question is specific.
How recent must your evidence be?
Tests must be no more than two years old at commencement.
Compare your test date with the date named in the rule. If your result will be close to expiry, ask admissions before planning another test.
Previous study and alternative evidence
First-language English or satisfactory evidence of recent English-medium secondary/tertiary study may be considered. This is assessed evidence, not an automatic exemption.
Prepare your transcript and any official evidence about the language of teaching and assessment. Let admissions decide whether it satisfies your course; a school’s use of English alone is not proof of eligibility.
English and admission pathways
The College offers English language programs and pre-university routes. Ask which English result and academic progression conditions apply to your target degree.
Explore the university’s English pathway options. Ask about entry evidence, the required final result and whether that route can be packaged with your intended degree. Master English preparation is separate from these university programs.
Important source differences
The checked nursing page retains a six-month two-sitting window and an ambiguous OET paragraph. Do not use that paragraph to set an OET target. Ask admissions to confirm current nursing rules in writing before relying on combined sittings or OET.
How to check your exact course
- Open the Western Sydney University official course/admissions page and find your degree and intake.
- Find English language entry requirements. Record the accepted test version, overall score and every skill minimum.
- Check exceptions, test dates, retakes and any conditions on your offer.
- If two official sources differ, send admissions both links, your course code and your intended start date. Ask which rule applies before booking.

Can a College English program guarantee admission?
