A, An, The and Zero Article

When do we use each article?
Use it when the listener or reader can identify the specific .
Use no article for many general plural, uncountable and abstract .
Is the noun singular and countable?
Use a or an only before one singular countable . We can say a student and an idea, but not a students or an information.
Can the reader identify it?
Use the when both people can identify the person, thing or idea. It may have been mentioned before, be unique in the situation, or be made specific by the words after it.
Are you speaking generally?
Use no article—called the zero article—with many plural and uncountable used generally: Students need feedback. Research takes time.
Remember: article choice depends on meaning, not only the word that follows.
