How PTE Summarize Group Discussion works

Listen once and note the topic plus each speaker’s contribution. Use 10 seconds to organise relationships, agreements and differences. Give a connected summary rather than a list or transcript.
A practical preparation method
Organise notes by theme and speaker, then combine the main viewpoints into a balanced summary that makes the relationships between ideas clear.
Use the full response time purposefully: Begin with the shared topic, then connect subtopics and attribute important ideas to speakers. Paraphrase the discussion: Show how the speakers’ ideas relate instead of repeating their wording.
The common mistake to avoid
Students often report each speaker separately without showing the shared topic, agreements, differences or conclusion of the discussion.
Practise a small number of attempts carefully, identify the repeated problem and correct that problem before increasing speed or volume.
What scoring information matters
Partial credit applies. Unoriginal, irrelevant or missing responses receive no credit. AI scores all traits; a human expert also reviews Content.
