How PTE Repeat Sentence works
Prompt: Audio 3–9 seconds. Skills assessed: Listening and speaking. Answer time: 15 seconds.
The recording plays automatically and cannot be replayed. When it ends, the microphone opens. Repeat the sentence immediately and as accurately as possible.
A practical preparation method
Listen in short meaning chunks, begin promptly and reproduce as much accurate language as possible with connected delivery.
Listen in meaning chunks: Hold short phrases rather than trying to remember disconnected words. Copy the sound pattern: Reproduce the speaker’s stress, rhythm and intonation while staying calm.
The common mistake to avoid
Students often wait too long, chase every individual word or stop completely when one part is forgotten.
Practise a small number of attempts carefully, identify the repeated problem and correct that problem before increasing speed or volume.
What scoring information matters
Content rewards correct word sequences. Partial credit applies. Affects listening, speaking, pronunciation and oral fluency.
