Become familiar with the microphone and recording process before the scored tasks begin.
By Master English Australia · Reviewed 2 October 2026
Is the Personal Introduction scored?
No. It does not contribute to your PTE score and is not one of the 22 scored task types. Pearson gives you 25 seconds to prepare and 30 seconds to record. You can record it only once.
What should I say?
Follow the on-screen instructions. A simple introduction can cover:
- Your name and where you are from.
- What you study or do for work.
- Why you are taking PTE or what you hope to do next.
- A brief interest, if there is time.
Use familiar language and a natural pace. You do not need an elaborate memorised speech.
A short practice example
“My name is Alex, and I am from Brazil. I currently work in customer service and enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds. I am taking PTE because I would like to continue my studies in Australia. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and going for walks.”
An original, fictional Master English example—not an official model answer. Adapt the details to yourself and practise within 30 seconds without rushing.
Practise before test day
- Spend 25 seconds choosing a few simple points.
- Record yourself once for up to 30 seconds.
- Listen for a clear volume and comfortable pace.
- Practise again if needed at home. In the test, you have only one recording opportunity.
Follow the test-centre instructions for microphone setup. Tell the test administrator if you notice a technical problem.
