Quick answer

Engineers Australia requires English competency evidence for a migration skills assessment unless it accepts an exemption. For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, its published minimums include IELTS 6 in every skill, PTE 47 Listening, 48 Reading, 51 Writing and 54 Speaking, or CELPIP General 7 in every skill. Secure test-centre results must normally be within three years.

Who is the authority?

Engineers Australia is the assessing authority for the relevant engineering occupations and assessment categories.

Choose the correct assessment pathway

Your qualification's accreditation status and country determine whether you use an accredited pathway or a Competency Demonstration Report pathway.

English results must be verifiable

Engineers Australia accepts only published tests taken at a secure test centre. The result must normally be taken within three years and remain verifiable during assessment.

Exemptions are limited

Engineers Australia publishes exemption routes for specified Australian engineering study and qualifying native-English backgrounds, but it may request a test during assessment.
