There is no single IELTS requirement for every construction or trade occupation. TRA confirms that its Migration Skills Assessment program does not require an English test, and IELTS is not an eligibility requirement for its Provisional Skills Assessment. Who is the authority?

The authority depends on the occupation and visa program. It may be Trades Recognition Australia, VETASSESS or another nominated authority.

Find the authority before testing

Use the occupation and visa program to identify the nominated assessing authority. Do not assume every construction role is assessed by TRA.

TRA programs are not identical

Requirements differ between the Migration Skills Assessment, Offshore Skills Assessment, Provisional Skills Assessment and Job Ready Program.

Visa English is separate

Even when a TRA skills assessment does not require IELTS, your visa pathway may still require English evidence.
